THIS WEEK WITH DEE
Check out this week’s music video. Isn’t that scene just the coziest thing ever? I could happily spend a whole day there just reading and sipping tea.
MENU:
Since we will be gone next week, my goal is to use up what we have on hand and avoid a regular grocery order until we return.
Monday…
I made homemade coleslaw last week and have half a head of cabbage left. Haluski is a favorite way to use cabbage for a main dish. I have peas in the freezer. Applesauce isn’t a huge family favorite but I bought some individual cups of it last fall (can’t recall why) and want to use them. We’ll see if I can sell this idea to the guys. 🙂
- Haluski
- steamed peas
- applesauce
Tuesday…
I nearly always have corn tortillas in the fridge. I also have ground beef in the freezer.
- tacos
- refried beans
- chips & salsa
Wednesday…
I have three large potatoes and canned chili in the pantry.
- baked potatoes
- chili
- broccoli
Thursday…
I’ll make this casserole with spaghetti sauce, macaroni noodles and lots of cheese.
- baked pasta casserole
- tossed green salad
- garlic bread sticks
Friday…
I have some Aldi veggie burgers in the freezer as well as some frozen french fries. Easy meal!
- veggie burgers
- fries
- salad
Saturday…
- leftovers
Sunday…
- soup & grilled cheese (or takeout)
IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
David and I met friends in Oklahoma City Friday evening for a long-planned get-together. We stayed in a gorgeous hotel that was new to us. It used to be a bank and is called The National. We also got upgraded to the Presidential suite, the most spectacular suite we’ve ever stayed in. There was a dining table that seats eight, a full bath plus a separate powder room, large living room and separate bedroom.
We had dinner at The Grey Sweater, something the four of us had been wanting to do for over a year. It was a chef’s tasting menu with wine pairings. Chef Andrew Black won the 2023 Best Chef of the Southwest and after tasting his food it’s easy to see why. This was a once in a lifetime experience.
The next day we drove to Fort Worth to watch our friend, Rob, in a cutting horse competition at the Cowtown Coliseum. This was interesting to watch and he won! We stayed at the Hilton where JFK had stayed the night before he was shot. It was a very nice hotel but not quite like The National. 😉 That evening we ate dinner at The Reata restaurant. We requested seating on the rooftop and the weather was absolutely perfect for outdoor dining. The food was excellent, as well.
We drove home on Sunday, grateful for such a lovely weekend with dear friends.
THIS WEEK
My plans for this week include giving the house a good once-over and then preparing to be out of town next week. David has another business trip…this time to Houston. Our 42nd anniversary is next Tuesday so I’m going with him. We will be gone Monday through Friday.
Thursday morning, David and I are going to be interviewed for a documentary that is being filmed about our town. For such a small town, there have been a surprising number of musicians come from here. We have promoted music for close to a decade and were asked to share our thoughts. I’m a little nervous about this, I must admit! Here is the official trailer for the film which will give you a glimpse of the talent as well as a nice little view of our town:
(The trailer says the film would be out in fall of 2022 but obviously that didn’t happen. Hopefully 2024!)
Here is the theme song sung by Zac Maloy, one of the producers. He is from Ada (where I live) and some of this was filmed here. Zac is the lead singer of The Nixons and an award-winning songwriter and producer.
Isn’t that beautiful?
WORK
I need to finish scheduling social media posts for the month and hopefully getting a couple of blog posts written to share later.
READING
I’m still reading my usual morning books and a couple of others. David and I started listening to, Your Table is Ready: Tales of a New York City Maître D’ on our drive home this weekend. The friends we spent the weekend with recommended it.
SELF CARE
I did a manicure and pedicure before our trip this weekend. This week I’d like to make time to take a drive alone. There is a town not far from us with peach orchards. I’m hoping I’ll be able to get some delicious peaches at one of the peach stands. The early peaches should be ripe about now, I think.
HEALTH & FITNESS
I’ll continue my daily, morning walks and add a second one. Not today, however. It’s been raining most of the day!
FUN ACTIVITIES
I am going to get back to the puzzle I started a few weeks ago and then left unattended.
HABIT OF THE MONTH (June)
My June habit of the month is daily, concentrated reading time.

What’s on your plan for the week ahead? Home tasks? Menu? Fun? What are you reading?

Glad you enjoyed your weekend away. Hope the upcoming trip goes well. Happy early anniversary. And that’s awesome about being interviewed for the music movie. Yes, that song for the theme tune is beautiful.
As for my week…
I have Zoom calls I want to get to most days. In fact, two on Tuesday (because of the cooking call and crochet) and also two on Wednesday (because there’s an ACB Crafters admin team meeting). Besides that there are some errands and chores that need to be dealt with, and some things I need to catch up with online.
And, as for my menu…
Monday: poutine.
Tuesday: hubby’s picking up Subway and doughnuts while he’s in town.
Wednesday through Friday: I’ll make a big bowl of potato salad on Wednesday, and that will feed me – along with other salad ingredients like tomatoes, lettuce, etc – for a few days.
Saturday and Sunday: considering the weather, I’ll probably still be reaching for salad, so I’ll either make more potato salad or have baked potato with my salad.
Deanna Piercy says
Sounds like another full week for you. I have two Zoom calls today, too. Two on Wednesday and one on Friday.
I’m glad you mentioned potato salad. I haven’t made any in quite awhile. I’m going to put that on my menu soon. Have a great week!
Tori says
Yep, another busy week. And you’re welcome about the potato salad reminder.
