IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
Monday…
I ran a LOT of errands as I mentioned in last week’s post. We had Tuna Noodle Casserole for dinner.
Tuesday…
I had two Zoom calls did the usual household tasks and made tacos for dinner.
Wednesday…
David and I left the house around 1 p.m. We stopped at Staples to get passport photos taken. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 10 years since we went to Paris! We are going to Belize in August so we need to update our passports.
We picked up lunch on our way out of town and drove to Gainesville, Texas to pick up an entertainment center David bought from Facebook Marketplace. We decided to get a big screen t.v. which meant getting rid of our old entertainment center which only held a 32 inch television. After we picked up the entertainment center we drove to Sherman, Texas to pick up the new t.v. at Best Buy.
David and Chris moved the VERY heavy, tall entertainment center out onto our covered patio. I then vacuumed 26 years worth of dust on the carpet where it used to sit. It was too low to get a vacuum or attachments under it, but high enough to collect dust. They moved in the new furniture and set up the t.v.
I had originally thought it would be later when we were in Gainesville and had found a restaurant with outdoor seating for dinner. However, it wasn’t even 4 p.m. and we had eaten lunch at 1:30. That meant I didn’t have a dinner plan at home so when David suggested pizza, I readily agreed. Chris went to town to pick it up. He also helped David get all of our various streaming services set up on the new television. We share these services with Chris paying for some and us paying for others. So it took both of them to get all the passwords set up. I left them to it as I knew I’d be no help. I did organize our movies into the new entertainment center.
Thursday…
I had a Zoom call. I also sorted through the rest of the stuff that had been in our old entertainment center. The movies were all organized on one side but the other side held CDs, PlayStation games, old VHS tapes, cassettes and even one 8-track!
I vacuumed, dusted and got the family room back in order. For dinner I made chicken club wraps and cold spaghetti salad. We also had fresh cherries and raspberries alongside.
Chris and I are getting back into our Thursday night movie ritual at his house so I went over there to watch “I Married a Witch” with him. Cute movie! David watched a movie on our new t.v.
Friday…
David and I went to town together. I needed to pick up four watches that I had taken in for my mom earlier in the week. They needed new batteries. I think the last time I had one replaced it was $10. Now they are $15 each! I’m not entirely sure why my mom needs all of them since she never goes anywhere but if it makes her happy – ha!
We then went to the nursery to pick up more shrubs for the front flower bed. It was quite hot so I showed David where they each needed to be planted and he decided to get up early Saturday to dig the holes.
For dinner I made “Summer Chicken Salad Crunch” (recipe coming soon), candied carrots and crusty French rolls.
David and I watched 3 (or 4?) episodes of The O.C. on our new television. I don’t need glasses to see it well which is nice.
Saturday…
David didn’t get up quite as early as planned but he did plant the shrubs. And then he mowed quite awhile.
I did laundry and other household tasks. I cleaned out the top of our linen closet and was able to put a big stack of things up there that had been taking up space in my closet. I still have a lot more to do in both the linen closet and my closet but it’s a start.
Chris was visiting friends so I just fixed an easy dinner for David and me. I always keep a bag of parmesan breaded chicken breasts from Aldi in the freezer as they make a super easy dinner. I baked them along with baked potatoes. I had leftover carrots from the night before.
My mom needed us to come over to open a box for her. While there she showed us a box of coins she’s had for years, some from when she was a child and a neighbor would pay her in old silver dollars to do chores. She gave it to David to sort through and research them. She’s convinced there will be something in there worth a lot of money (which we’ll divide with my brothers, of course). Probably not but now David has a new hobby – coin collecting. 🙂
Sunday…
I washed our sheets and the down blanket and remade the bed. I recently bought new sheets from Bed, Bath and Beyond during their sale and I really like them. They are 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton and seem to be very nice quality. David asked if they were still on sale and since they were he suggested I go ahead and buy another set. I tend to wait until our current set is on its last legs before trying to find another set I like so this was no doubt a wise suggestion.
I washed the throws from the back of the family room sofas and switched out the decorative pillows for the summer ones. I refreshed the fresh flowers I had bought on Monday. They still look perfect and smell so wonderful! I also made 14 new graphics for my blog’s Facebook page and got them scheduled.
Chris offered to buy dinner so I picked up Burger King for us all. I first stopped by Lisa’s house to get their gift for David for Father’s Day. Next I went to Dollar Tree to buy candy – Twizzlers for David and Chris, Raisinets for me. Next door is the movie theater and I bought a large popcorn to go. Finally, I drove through Burger King. It was almost 7:30 so we decided to eat our dinner in the family room so we could start the movie. We watched “The Sting”. Chris had never seen it and it had been decades since David and I had. We enjoyed our movie popcorn and candy while watching the movie.
Even though it was 11:30 by the time we got in bed we still had to watch our bedtime episode of “Dennis the Menace“. We are close to wrapping up the whole series and I must say I’m going to miss Dennis and all the other characters.
THIS WEEK
Monday…
This is the day I pick up a grocery order for us and for my mom. I also make a batch of her favorite Golden Touch Beans. While I was in town I ran by Hallmark to buy an anniversary card for David and a birthday card for Lisa.
I came home, put away the groceries, made the green beans for my mom and then David and I took Mom her stuff. I helped her sort things while David took her car to get gas in it. She’s only driving from her house to the trash down by the road but she was getting low. Afterwards, we drove out to Francis where he used to work before he started working from home. He needed to borrow the flat bed trailer. Tomorrow he’s taking a load of things to the dump and our old treadmill to the Re-Use Center.
As soon as we got home I started dinner, washed the dishes in the sink, wiped down the counters, and vacuumed the kitchen. Now I’m back to my office trying to finish up this blog post before David is ready for dinner (he’s taking apart the treadmill right now).
Tuesday…
David is taking off part of the day to haul things to the dump. I’ve got a Zoom call. David and Chris usually watch a movie together on Tuesdays at Chris’ house. I’m going to watch a ballet. AARP often has free specials. This one is Romeo and Juliet.
Wednesday…
I have another Zoom call and need to pack. David, Chris and I are going to start watching M.A.S.H. on Wednesday nights. I used to watch it with my grandma when I was a kid. It’s been years since I’ve seen any episodes but I remember it being a really good show.
Thursday…
This is our 43rd anniversary. David and I are going to Oklahoma City for a couple of days.
Friday…
We are planning to go out to dinner in the city at a restaurant with outdoor seating overlooking the lake. It’s a gorgeous setting. We have friends who live up there. We’ve met them there for dinner a few times over the past few years. I think I’ll get in touch and see if they are free to join us.
Saturday…
After we check out of our hotel we’ll get some lunch and then run by Whole Foods. David loves artichokes but they are pretty hard to find locally. Whole Foods usually has nice ones. Then we’ll head home.
Sunday…
This is the day I wash sheets and schedule social media for the week ahead.

On our May trip to New Orleans, David and I listened to two audiobooks on Audible:
The Last Madame: A Life in the New Orleans Underworld by Christine Wiltz (This was fascinating!)
Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life…And Maybe the World by Admiral William H. McRaven
We need to choose our next book to listen to on our drive to OKC this week.
If you don’t already have Audible, you can get a free trial here. We’ve definitely been enjoying it on long drives.
SELF CARE
I need to do a manicure and pedicure before we go to the city Thursday.
HEALTH & FITNESS
I put my new walking pad where I want it in my office but the cord won’t reach the outlet. David ordered a short extension cord from Amazon so as soon as it arrives I can start using it. I am doing pretty well with my morning exercise routine.
FUN ACTIVITIES
We keep saying we are going to do “Music Monday” and listen to a vinyl album together. Hopefully that will happen this week. Tuesday I’ll watch a ballet. M.A.S.H. on Wednesday then to OKC for Thursday and Friday.
HABIT OF THE MONTH (JUNE)
The LWD June Challenge is to to increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere it’s almost summer and there are so many delicious options coming into season. Make use of your local farmers market and add lots of fresh fruits and veggies to your daily diet. I’ll be sharing some ideas in the Facebook group throughout the month and if you want to share something about how you incorporate more fresh produce in your daily diet, please feel free to do so in the group or email me.
