IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
Monday…
I picked up a grocery order for us and for my mom. I tried both Braum’s locations for the iced tea she likes but they were out. I brought our groceries home and put them away, made some food for Mom and took her things to her later that evening. We had chicken and veggies cooked on a sheet pan. I always cover the pan with foil for easy cleanup, something much appreciated on busy days.
Tuesday…
I had forgotten to take Mom the 1/2 & 1/2 and cottage cheese I had bought for her yesterday when I took her other groceries. I had put it in my fridge to stay cold and then forgot it. I ran to town and tried both Braum’s stores again for the iced tea. No luck. I just took her the items I had forgotten the day before.
We had tacos for dinner.
Wednesday…
This was David’s birthday. We had made arrangements a couple of weeks ago to meet up with friends after work for drinks on the balcony of a local wine bar. It was nice weather and we are trying to take advantage of these days before it gets ridiculously hot. We met them at around 5 p.m. and were having such a nice visit that before we all knew it, it was after 7:30. We decided that none of us wanted to go home and cook that late so we all went to a local Mexican restaurant with a patio and enjoyed a nice meal and more conversation.
We postponed David’s requested birthday meal but I had made cherry cobbler for him earlier that afternoon. We had some when we got home.
Thursday…
I had a Zoom call and we had David’s belated birthday dinner – Hawaiian Meatballs over rice (recipe coming soon) and some baked wontons. And of course, more cherry cobbler.
Friday…
I tried again to get Mom’s iced tea and had success this time. They only had three cartons, though. I took two for her and ran them out to her house quickly. I then hurried home and fixed an early dinner. We had bbq chicken legs, corn on the cob and salad. We then went to the park to see a live, outdoor production of Romeo and Juliet. It was really well done and we enjoyed it. We also saw a few friends and had a nice conversation with a couple of them after the show.
Saturday…
David took the chainsaw out to cut some tree branches that had become really overgrown on either side of our driveway. I made macaroni salad and a cake. We all three cleaned the back patio. Then around 5 p.m. all the kids and little Charlotte came over to celebrate David’s birthday. The weather was nice and we grilled hot dogs on the patio.
It was such a nice evening with everyone here!
Sunday…
David and I were both rather tired but we pushed through and got some things done anyway. He did some mowing and pulled out some bushes that had grown up along the edge of the pond. He pulled them out with his truck and Chris helped him.
I washed sheets, scheduled social media, did our weekly menu, ordered groceries, and worked on my very messy closet for a little while (way more to do!).
Chris offered to pick up Braum’s for dinner and I gratefully accepted.
THIS WEEK
Monday…
I ran a LOT of errands today.
First, I stopped by our vet clinic. Amazon had, for some strange reason, sent a huge package of dog scarves to Chris. No one in our family currently has a dog. So I donated them to our vet. Most of them were 4th of July themed so I figured this was timely.
I drove across the street and put gas in my car. I usually try to time it so David does this for me but it didn’t work out this time – ha!
Next, I cashed a rebate check at the drive-thru bank then drove across town to the post office to mail a birthday card for my cousin. I sure to miss having drop boxes in various places across town instead of just at the post office.
I then went to the jewelry store to drop off four of my mom’s watches that needed new batteries.
I’ve been meaning to buy some fresh flowers for quite some time and today was the day. I bought three stems of Stargazer Lilies (each has several buds or blooms), five white carnations and some purple Mystic. I could actually use some other filler but I mainly wanted something fragrant.
I had placed a grocery order last night and I picked it up. While in the parking lot I ordered iced coffees for myself and David from Starbucks on the app. When I drove through and they asked for my order, I replied, “Mobile order for Deanna.” I was surprised to hear that someone else named Deanna had a mobile order at the same time so they asked me to clarify which order was mine. I’ve never had that happen as my name isn’t all that common.
I went home, put away groceries and started working on this blog post. I didn’t finish before I had to make my mom’s weekly batch of Golden Touch Beans, gather up the groceries I’d bought for her and head back to town to buy the gallon cartons of sweet tea that she wants each week from Braum’s. Last week I tried a total of five times before I found it for her and it was out of stock again today. I’ve never experienced this before. My theory is that it’s an increased demand issue. There is a drive-thru convenience store in town that is locally famous for their iced tea. But they are currently closed while remodeling. Maybe all their customers are buying iced tea from Braum’s. I guess we’ll find out when they reopen.
Anyway, since I was already at Braum’s I bought my mom a hamburger, fries and chocolate malt and brought them to her for dinner, along with her groceries.
By this time it was nearly 7 p.m. David was at a firefighter meeting so we knew dinner would be late. By the time we finished eating and cleaned the kitchen it was 8:45 p.m. We normally put the cats up in the laundry room around 9 p.m. but Chris decided to “put the babies to bed” a little early – ha!
Now I just need to get this blog post finished and hopefully get to bed before 10:30 myself. I’m tired!
Tuesday…
I have a Zoom call and need to run to town to pick up Mom’s watches for her. I hope to work on my closet a little more.
Wednesday…
David and I are going to Gainesville, Texas (about an hour and a half away) to pick up an antique buffet he bought online. We are going to replace our tall entertainment center which only holds a relatively small television with this buffet and then buy a large, wall-mounted t.v. to go above it in our family room.
I’ve resisted this for a long time because I dislike the looks of televisions and liked the fact the closed doors of the entertainment center hid it unless we were watching. However, since so much of our time is now spent at home and we aren’t going to movie theaters, having a big screen television for a better movie-watching experience makes sense. When I told David this plan of mine he was thrilled and immediately started looking for a buffet.
After we pick up the buffet we then have to drive to another city to pick up the television.
We also need to update our passports so if we get out of town in time we’ll run by Walgreen’s and get new photos taken on our way to Texas.
I’ve already found us a restaurant with outdoor seating in Gainesville so we’ll eat dinner there.
Thursday…
David has a 7 a.m. dental appointment. I sure hope he can sneak out quietly! I have a Zoom call in the afternoon. I also plan to keep working on my closet. That’s my main household goal for the week. I’m really tired of the mess. Part of the issue is that I have a bunch of bedding than needs to go into the top of our linen closet. I can’t reach that top shelf so it’s just piled up in my closet instead. But I’m going to bring my step ladder upstairs and get it all put away. I also need to order some storage containers but I want to see exactly what I need before I order some.
I expect we’ll also try to get the new t.v. set up. That may turn out to be a big job, what with moving the old entertainment center out (not sure what we are doing with it), moving the “new” buffet into it’s place and installing the t.v. We will also need to adjust some of the paintings on that wall.
Friday…
If David’s work schedule allows we would like to go the nursery and buy some more plants for our front flower bed. I also need to get some tomato plants and a hanging plant for our kitchen.
Saturday…
Hopefully the weather will cooperate so we can plant and work in yard.
Sunday…
It’s Father’s Day. Since we just had everyone here for David’s birthday I don’t expect we’ll do another get together. I have gifts and a card for him and I’m sure we’ll see the kids sometime over the weekend for their gifts to him. Maybe we’ll plan to watch a movie together on our new t.v. 🙂

SELF CARE
Last week I said I want to get back to coloring but I didn’t do it even once. So that’s still on my list this week.
HEALTH & FITNESS
I mentioned last week that I bought walking pad treadmill and want to use it get in more daily steps. Have I set it up yet? Nope. Hopefully David can help me do it tomorrow.
My goal this month is to add more fruits and vegetables. My grocery order this week included strawberries (they smell SO good!), grapes, cherries, raspberries, bananas, bell peppers, zucchini, baby carrots, tomatoes, and broccoli (both fresh and frozen). I already had asparagus, lettuce, spinach, oranges, apples, potatoes, celery and blueberries on hand.
Today for lunch I had a salad with lettuce and fresh spinach, tomatoes, some leftover bbq chicken, croutons and feta cheese. I had a small amount of leftover macaroni salad on the side. While I was putting away groceries I washed and repackaged the blueberries. They looked so good that I had a handful.
FUN ACTIVITIES
Dinner out on Wednesday while in Texas, movie night with Chris on Thursday, “Cocktails and The O.C.” on Friday, and hopefully at least one night of stargazing.
HABIT OF THE MONTH (JUNE)
The LWD June Challenge is to to increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere it’s almost summer and there are so many delicious options coming into season. Make use of your local farmers market and add lots of fresh fruits and veggies to your daily diet. I’ll be sharing some ideas in the Facebook group throughout the month and if you want to share something about how you incorporate more fresh produce in your daily diet, please feel free to do so in the group or email me.
If you aren’t already in the group, here is the link:
