THIS WEEK WITH DEE
It’s now officially fall here in the Northern hemisphere so let’s enjoy a vintage Autumn playlist, shall we?
MENU:
Since Mom doesn’t need a regular grocery shopping order this week, I decided to just use what we had on hand and skip it this week. She just needs a couple of things I can get at Braum’s and I’ll get us potatoes and some fresh veggies for the Turkey Skillet on Wednesday. I bought a loaf of bread from a convenience store yesterday (they have the freshest bread in town, for some odd reason). We had everything else needed for this menu.
Monday…
- spaghetti and meatballs
- broccoli
- salad
- garlic bread
Tuesday…
- Lentil Tacos
- Spanish rice
- chips & salsa
Wednesday…
Thursday…
- chicken
- mashed potatoes
- stuffing
- green beans
- cranberry sauce
- salad
Friday…
- out of town
Saturday…
- pizza?
Sunday…
- soup
- grilled cheese sandwiches
- fruit
IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
You know, I think instead of rehashing last week day by day, I’ll just say it was…a week…and I’m mentally exhausted. None of it was life threatening but merely a series of annoying and/or stressful events.
But it wasn’t all bad. David and I had a nice time with friends at Taste of Ada which takes place in a lovely vineyard. It was pretty hot when we first arrived but soon enough we were able to find a table in the shade. We also enjoyed viewing the lunar eclipse Tuesday night.
But let’s just leave the week behind and hope for a better one. I do know the weather will be much nicer this week. We had several days of high temperatures around 100 last week. But apparently since it is now officially Autumn our weather has decided to give it a rest. We had quite a bit of rain last night and our high temperature today is in the mid-70s. The rest of the week is predicted to be in the mid-80s with overnight lows in the upper 50s. In my opinion, that is just about perfect.
Chris did some mowing this weekend and made sure to do the area out back where I like to stargaze. With cooler temperatures and getting dark earlier, this should be perfect for it. That is, as long as the skies are clear. It looks like at least Tuesday and Thursday will be clear. <fingers crossed>
On Saturday I used the blower on the back patio and moved the patio furniture back where it belongs. It had been pushed together to allow space to park a car under there the last time we had a threat of hail and hadn’t been moved back. It still needs a bit more work but David and I sat out there together Sunday afternoon for 30-40 minutes just chatting and that was really nice. We have lovely outdoor areas but it’s been too hot this summer to really enjoy them. I mean to take advantage of fall weather before winter sets in!
THIS WEEK
Monday…
I had big plans for today but I’m exhausted for some reason. I’ve pushed several things from today’s list to tomorrow and hoping for a good night’s sleep tonight and more energy tomorrow.
Other than this blog post, my shortened to-do list for today includes:
- make bed (was going to wash sheets but I’ll wait until tomorrow)
- dishes
- load of laundry
- water houseplants
- schedule social media
I had a Zoom call earlier this afternoon. It was the sort of thing I could listen to while also doing a few tasks such as approving member requests for my French Chic Facebook group and sorting through some email.
I also plan to start re-watching the Gilmore Girls series tonight. It just feels like the perfect fall show.
Tuesday…
I’ll wash the sheets and remake the bed. I need to pick up a few things at Braum’s for my mom and for us. Neither of us needed a full shopping trip this week. I also need to take Mom the cat food I ordered for her.
I have a Zoom call early evening. And it’s Taco Tuesday!
Wednesday…
I need to write a blog post or two.
Our monthly Amazon Subscribe and Save order arrives so I’ll take Mom her items from the order. I may go into town and pick up some mums for the front porch, too.
Thursday…
I’d like to do some fall decorating. I haven’t bought any new fall decor for years but I decided I’d like to decorate the downstairs bathroom for the season. I ordered a few items from Amazon which are supposed to arrive Wednesday. Here’s what I ordered:
I currently have an ivy garland over the window and I’ll switch it out for this:
I have a hand towel ring with a decorative towel on it as well as a second one on the counter. I’ll switch them out for these which will coordinate well with the black and white check curtains already in the bathroom.
Maple Leaf Shower Curtain Hooks
Aren’t these cute? We have a white waffle weave shower curtain (similar to this) with white and chrome curtain hooks. I had never thought to change them seasonally but I love the idea. Now I’ll be looking for something for Christmas. 🙂
I have a large box of fall decor, including silk flowers, little pumpkins and such. I’ll sort through it and choose a couple of other items to use in the bathroom. When I get it done I’ll try to remember to share photos in next week’s “This Week” post. If I forget, don’t hesitate to remind me!
Do you decorate your bathroom seasonally?
Friday…
David is taking off at noon so we can go to the city. We need to look at tile for our bathroom. Yes, the remodeling continues and likely will for several more weeks since David is doing the work himself.
We’re going to take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy a night in a hotel. If it isn’t raining we plan to ask friends in the area if they’d like to join us for dinner. There is a nice restaurant with outdoor seating right on the lake. We’d like to take advantage of that before it gets cold.
Saturday…
We will leave the hotel at noon, find something for lunch and then head home. I’ll likely do some housework and get some blog work done. I’m thinking it would be nice to pick up pizza for dinner and maybe watch a movie.
Sunday…
I’ll finish up scheduling social media for the week ahead, do our weekly menu, order groceries and plan the week ahead.
READING
Currently reading…

David and I are still listening to:
All the Time in the World by John Gierach
If you don’t already have Audible, you can get a free trial here. We’ve definitely been enjoying it on long drives.
SELF CARE
I received the nail strengthening polish I ordered and gave myself a manicure with it. I do hope it helps my nails. This is the one I got this time:
I’ve got a box of hair color arriving Wednesday so I’ll color my hair either that night or Thursday so it will be done before we go to the city on Friday.
HEALTH & FITNESS
Daily walks are on my agenda now that it’s cooler. I’m also aiming for a gallon of water a day.
FUN ACTIVITIES
Of all the fun activities I had planned for last week, I only managed two – Taste of Ada and the lunar eclipse. I didn’t even get to see Charlotte the day we dropped of the car as I had hoped. She is not a good sleeper and it had been one of those nights. She and her exhausted mama were taking a nap at the time. Maybe we can manage a donut run Thursday night. She’s always excited to see Gramma and Grampa but even more so if we come bearing donuts – ha!
As I mentioned above, I’m ready to start my fall viewing of Gilmore Girls and hope to make time for an episode at least a few nights this week. I’ll try to make it even more of a ritual by enjoying a hot drink while watching. I have a choice of a couple of types of decaffeinated tea, hot cocoa or decaffeinated coffee. I also splurged on several bottles of flavored syrups last winter so I can add a bit of something special to my drinks. I think I “need” to add these to my hot drink station, as well:

I love your posts, Dee! Thank you for all of the inspiration and ideas. I make your Mediterranean turkey skillet often. I usually use garbanzo beans, olives in place of banana peppers, and crumbled goat cheese. It is delicious! My 30 year old daughter always goes back to Gilmore Girls in the fall and I enjoy watching with her. Have a wonderful first week of autumn!!

Thank you, Carole! I just finished watching an episode of Gilmore Girls. I started with the third episode because I had fairly recently watched the first two. It is such a fun show. 🙂

I’m so glad we are finally feeling “cooler” temps here! It’s so refreshing and I’m glad to see some rain as well. I hope it lasts but being an Okie, I’m also not a fool. LOL
Fun fact, I’ve never watched a single episode of Gilmore Girls. I guess when it came out, I was busy in the midst of having elementary school kids and also just wasn’t into that kind of show then. I’m currently working my way through both the books and the show version of Outlander and loving it. I’m a bit ahead of myself with the show vs the books but I don’t mind because they are both so good.
As always, your menu sounds delicious and I’ll be trying some of your ideas.

Yes, this change of weather is a real pleasure!
I didn’t watch Gilmore Girls when it first came out, either. It’s only been perhaps 10 years ago that I watched it the first time.
I love Outlander! I’ve read the first few in the series but that was close to 20 years ago, I think. I’ve bought the whole series and plan to start at the beginning and read them all. I watched the first few episodes of the series and then life got hectic. One of these days!
