I wasn’t going to do a blog post today but I just had to share this story about my Fitbit activity tracker and its little adventure in the washing machine. It’s all too easy to complain about poor customer service but when a company exceeds my expectations, I think that deserves a shout-out.

I bought the Fitbit One in January. I chose this style because it clips to my bra or other clothing rather than being the wristband style.
So, I’ve been wearing my Fitbit every day since I received it. I even used the sleep feature the first week which only served to confirm what I already knew – I don’t sleep. Each morning I clip it to my clothing and it tracks my steps, number of staircases climbed, and a couple of other things. It’s been very helpful for me to see what my activity level was and to increase it.
All was well until Monday morning when I couldn’t find it. My heart sank when it occurred to me what might have happened. I ran downstairs, took the load of laundry from the dryer, and there it was – still clipped to an article of clothing.
I did the obvious thing – I Googled, “Fitbit through washer and dryer”.
I was a bit heartened to discover that many had survived this adventure. I removed it from the case and slipped it into a cup of dry rice. 48 hours later I pulled it out of the rice and followed the instructions on the Fitbit site. Nothing. I tried it a few more times over the next day. I got a brief light up of the screen but it went black again.
I took to Twitter and received a reply from their customer service rep in short order. I followed their instructions. Still, nothing. They told me to call customer support which I did just a little while ago. I told the representative my story, he asked if I had taken the recommended steps and then…get this…he asked for my address so they can send me a new one. That’s right. I stupidly washed and DRIED my Fitbit and they are replacing it free of charge.
Needless to say, I am a Fitbit customer for life. David doesn’t have one yet but I’m going to be ordering one for him. And you can be sure I will be recommending this brand to anyone looking to purchase an activity tracker. This sort of customer service just made my day!

Note: This is NOT a sponsored post. I wrote this simply because I received such fabulous customer service that I wanted to share it with you, my readers. If, however, you are in the market for an activity tracker and decide to purchase the Fitbit brand, I would be ever so grateful if you would do so via the affiliate link here on this post. Just click on the picture of the Fitbit and it will take you directly to Amazon. You don’t even need to buy this particular Fitbit. If you prefer one of the other styles just click on through to the one you want. If you purchase via this link I will receive a teeny, tiny portion of the purchase price from Amazon. Your support helps defray the costs of operating Life With Dee. Thank you!

That was smart if you to contact them. I wish I had thought of that a few years ago when I had an earlier model. Mine broke in half and I thought oh well, there goes that….Will keep it in mind as a potential treat for myself. I really did like my Fitbit.

I don’t know that I would have done so if I hadn’t read some posts online about people who had theirs replaced. I guess it just goes to show that it never hurts to ask.

Now that’s what you call good customer service! If I was looking for an activity tracker – and if theirs had accessability features that would work for me – I’d want to get one from them!

I was truly amazed.
