It has begun to sink in that I’ve a lot to do before we go to New Orleans December 1st. We won’t return until the 12th which means that I basically have to have all my Christmas shopping and decorating done before we go. Gulp. I just spent the last little while doing some online shopping and now have gifts for my nieces and nephews, birthday gift for my niece with a December birthday and gifts for in-laws and an aunt and uncle. I am going to Norman with my daughter tomorrow afternoon to pick up our organic turkeys and a few other things, plus the gift for my parents (I know what I’m getting so that will be easy). That just leaves David and our kids. They have all been given instructions that they must give me their wishlists before Thanksgiving. Hopefully I’ll be able to place the last orders on the Saturday following Thanksgiving. No Black Friday shopping for me, thank you!
I’ve barely started working on my annual Christmas newsletter so I’ve got to get a move on. It’s a four page (two sheets, front and back) letter than I do in Publisher, complete with photos, recipes, and our year in review. My goal each year is to have it done before Thanksgiving so I can hand out them out to relatives at our big Thanksgiving dinner and thus save some on postage. Oh, that reminds me. Must buy holiday stamps. I don’t always meet this self-imposed deadline but I hope I can pull it off this year.
I generally don’t decorate until at least a week into December because we leave our decorations up mid-way into January. However, this year I’ll start right after Thanksgiving. I don’t know if I’ll get everything done before we leave but I’m going to try. If I can pull all of this off I think the rush will be worth it. It would be awfully nice to come home from our vacation and just be able to relax and enjoy the holiday. Okay, quit laughing. Ever the optimist, I think it might happen. Maybe?
Today I am thankful for:
