Welcome to the first week of January’s LWD Grocery Haul series in which I share our weekly grocery purchases, including prices. I’m always curious to see what others purchase and what food prices are in different countries or regions. I hope you are finding this series interesting and helpful.

LWD GROCERY HAUL
January 2025 ~ Week One
This week’s groceries included a few “snacky” items for New Year’s Day. I fixed our usual holiday breakfast of canned orange rolls (bought last week on sale) and sausage links. Early afternoon I fixed a couple of trays with cheeses, crackers, chips & dip, prosciutto-wrapped cheese, sliced summer sausage and grapes. This is a terrible photo but I just snapped a quick photo and texted it to the guys to tell them I had fixed something to eat. I added the grapes after the photo.
For dinner on New Year’s Eve we had smoked turkey. One of David’s customers sent him a Greenberg Smoked Turkey which was really nice. I made homemade cranberry sauce, homemade baked macaroni and cheese and green bean casserole. We also had Hawaiian sweet rolls. We had plenty of leftovers so I took a plate to my mom and we had a repeat last night.
I set aside some turkey for tonight. I haven’t decided if I’ll make a turkey casserole or soup out of it. The rest was divided up and put in the freezer. I froze each leg separately and plan to use them in pots of beans. The other two packages will make delicious soups or casseroles.
Most of the rest of this week’s grocery order consisted of sale items. I saved $3.30 on the bottle of vanilla extract. I plan to get back to making my own but it takes a while to “brew” so I thought I should take advantage of a good sale in the meantime.
The other especially good sale was on the frozen meatballs. They are regularly $10.99 and I got them for $5.99. I find it very handy to keep a bag in the freezer. I can add part of a bag to a jar of pasta sauce for a super easy spaghetti and meatball dinner. Way cheaper than take-out and much tastier.
The same is true for the frozen grilled chicken strips and bagged Caesar salad. While they may seem expensive on their own, they make a quick and easy Sunday night dinner for the three of us for about $14. Chris said he paid that much for lunch at What-a-Burger earlier this week. For just himself!
What are your easy, go-to meals when you are just not in the mood for cooking a regular dinner?

Our weekly menu…
On Monday I took the leftover pork chop, gravy and rice from Saturday’s Smothered Pork Chops and made a pot of soup from it. I added chicken broth and a bag of frozen sliced carrots. It was so good!
It may not be a traditional NYE meal but we had our usual Tuesday night tacos. This is always a favorite around here.
Tonight I’ll use leftover smoked turkey in a casserole or soup – haven’t decided which one yet.

I like to make quesadillas for a quick meal or heat up some breaded chicken breasts, make a quick alfredo sauce and pasta, top the chicken with a little of the sauce and cheese. It’s a favorite weekend meal around here.

We enjoy quesadillas, too. I like the idea of keeping breaded chicken breasts in the freezer. I need to get some!
