I haven’t done a grocery haul post for awhile so here you go. I know I’m not the only one who enjoys seeing what others buy at the grocery store, right?

GROCERY HAUL
David and I went grocery shopping together this afternoon. The volunteer fire department on which he serves is having a meal tomorrow evening for the firefighters and their families. We won’t be attending but he offered to purchase the food (other than the burgers which were already donated), drinks, paper goods, etc. I needed some groceries for the week so we each grabbed a cart and did our own shopping.
On the way to the store I told him what I estimated his items would cost and I don’t think he believed me. I told him $200. It turned out to be about $175 but only because he bought less of some things than I would have. I’m getting pretty good at estimating these things.
I know I’m not the only one who is continually astonished by grocery prices these days. A few items that skyrocketed in price in recent years have come down somewhat (ie. eggs) but in most cases, not to pre-pandemic levels. One thing I’m doing to control costs is to plan more vegetarian or low-meat meals.
Fortunately the three of us love soup and that’s something that can be made inexpensively. It’s also super easy in my Instant Pot. I’m hoping to get back into bread-baking regularly now that the weather is cooling off. A steaming bowl of homemade soup and a slice or two of fresh, homemade bread makes an inexpensive dinner that is truly not a sacrifice.
What about you? Are you seeing higher grocery prices? What are your favorite ways to control food costs? Leave your suggestions in the comments and let’s all share ideas.

That’s hard to say as I keep a good stock of items in my freezer and pantry. I would guess about a week.
