Grocery Haul ~ Third Week of April

April 17, 2025 By Deanna Piercy 2 Comments

Welcome to the third week of April’s LWD Grocery Haul series in which I share our weekly grocery purchases, including prices. I’m always curious to see what others purchase and what food prices are in different countries or regions. I hope you are finding this series interesting and helpful.

Did you happen to see the mistake I made? I bought two brands of French Fried Onions. I will be making green bean casserole for Easter and was almost out. I usually start working on my online grocery list several days in advance of placing the order, adding things as I think of them. I also skim through the sale items to see if there are any good deals to add to my pantry.

Well, apparently I had already put the onions in my cart, then saw them in the sale items and added them again. Oops! At least they were both on sale and they keep well on the shelf. I like to add them to a variety of casseroles so they won’t go to waste. But I do wonder what my shopper thought about this – ha!

My best buy this week were the frozen meatballs. It’s a huge bag that regularly sells for $17.99 but I got them for only $9.99!

The Kerrygold butter wasn’t on sale but I’ve read that we should expect a price increase due to tariffs. Butter freezes well so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to stock up a bit. I also bought regular butter which was on sale. I save the pricier (but tastier!) Kerrygold for toast.

Speaking of tariffs, are you seeing any price increases yet? The one thing I specifically noticed is an increase in the price of toilet paper. I’ll be keeping an eye on prices and doing my best to keep my grocery budget in check. Would you be interested in some inexpensive recipes here on the blog? Let me know how I can help. And if you have suggestions that might help other readers, feel free to leave them in the comments. Let’s help one another, shall we?

Our weekly menu…

We are well off our planned menu this week. We went to see our grandnephew play t-ball on Tuesday at 6 p.m. None of us eaten prior to the game so we invited our niece and grandnephew to join David, Chris and I for dinner at Potrillo’s, our favorite local Mexican restaurant. The weather was just perfect and we had the patio to ourselves.

Wednesday evening, we met up with friends for after-work drinks. Again, we had the patio to ourselves and when we all realized it was almost 8 p.m. we decided to order dinner there.

I’m writing this on Thursday night. David and Chris are in Texas to watch a few baseball games so I am on my own. I cooked a couple of eggs and had them with some raisin toast (and Kerrygold butter!) for my supper. Tomorrow I’m going to treat myself to sushi takeout. I’m not sure what I’ll have Saturday night. The guys won’t be home until pretty late that night. Then of course Sunday is Easter and we’ll be back on track with our menu. I’ll probably put the garlic lime chicken on next week’s menu since I have the ingredients on hand.

An idea to use those extra French Fried Onions: I make either chicken or boneless chops this way. Lay meat in the pan, spread sour cream (or yogurt if you prefer) over top, sprinkle with a tablespoon or so of onion soup mix and then top with the french fried onions and bake. This is really good!
