Welcome to the third week of October’s LWD Grocery Haul series in which I share our weekly grocery purchases, including prices. I’m always curious to see what others purchase and what food prices are in different countries or regions. I hope you are finding this series interesting and helpful.
LWD GROCERY HAUL
October 2025 ~ Week Three
Anyone else notice how condiments seem to run low at the same time? Fortunately my store had ketchup, mayonnaise and relish all on sale this week. Now I have an extra of each in the pantry. I like to always have a backup.
The only meat I bought this week:
- a family pack of ground beef (3.42 pounds) which I had them wrap in one pound packages
- frozen, pre-cooked sausage links (on sale)
I plan to start looking for new recipes using lentils, beans and other legumes. Fortunately we like these and the fiber is a healthy addition to our diet.
Since cranberry sauce was on sale I picked up two cans. We’ll use one this week and tuck the other away for the holidays. I do prefer to make my own from scratch but it’s handy to have some cans on hand, as well. Sometimes it can be hard to find the fresh ones.
I splurged on brioche hamburger buns and cinnamon raisin bread. I really need to start doing some baking but life is way too crazy right now for me to add anything extra.
Oh, and I also bought mini marshmallows because hot chocolate season is coming up! I have airtight glass jars for hot chocolate mix and marshmallows which I keep on hand when it starts getting chilly. It’s a nice little evening treat which we all enjoy.

Our weekly menu…
Things continue to be pretty busy around here as we are in the process of moving my mom to assisted living. David and I didn’t finish working on her room Monday night until almost 7:30. I still needed to go give my mom her meds so David suggested picking up takeout instead of me cooking at 8:30 p.m. Hopefully we can get her moved in sometime in the next few days.
Last night, I took the leftover chicken that I had intended to turn into chicken and dumplings and made “KFC bowls”. When I planned the menu I hadn’t taken into account how much I’d have leftover of the mashed potatoes I made Sunday night. The potatoes were getting a bit past their prime so I cooked them all. I made homemade chicken gravy and added the leftover chicken I picked off the carcass. We topped our reheated mashed potatoes with the chicken and gravy, along with leftover corn, shredded cheddar cheese and a sprinkling of French fried onions on top. Quite tasty!
I’m swapping some meals around. Tonight we’ll have the planned grilled burgers and I’ll make the Taco Frito Salad on Thursday, moving that meal to next week.
At least, that’s the current plan. I told David the other day that I’m having to remain very flexible right now, not my strong suit. I like to know what’s ahead and plan for it but that’s just not possible right now.
