The two video clips I’ve recently posted were for entertainment value only. There are lots of serious political blogs out there. This is not one of them. If it were, I would not have posted these particular clips. I would be discussing the real issues and encouraging serious dialog amongst my readers. I don’t make my political choices based upon YouTube videos, forwarded e-mails, biased “news” sources, or comments overheard at the salon. I’m sure my readers are too smart to be swayed one way or the other by silly videos on this blog.
I realize we don’t all share the same sense of humor. For instance, as difficult as it is for me to comprehend, some people actually don’t *get* Monty Python. Really, it’s true! I had labeled the Palin interview clip as “humor”, not as “serious political commentary” and I hoped it would be viewed in that light. Yes, the upcoming election is serious business and I assure you I am not taking it lightly. However, I believe that a little humor now and then is a good thing. So, bring me a shrubbery and we’ll all get on with our lives.

You are so wrong. Humor and politics should never mix… SNL is in trouble.

And Letterman, and Leno, and The Daily Show, and…

You don’t need any shrubbery, Deanna.
I guess I wonder why people even leave comments when they dissagree with you. Just ignore it and move on if you don’t like it. (Unless its stated somewhere that you, the blogger, want to discuss your views vs their views.)
Whose blog is it anyway?
Deanna Piercy says
I don’t have a problem with people disagreeing; I just think in this case my motives were misunderstood.
Now, let’s move on to important things like food, pirates and general craziness!

Sorry I caused such a ruckus. I am very active in this election and am taking things very personally. I always assumed people liked when comments were left on their blogs, good or bad, in regards to the post. I know I like comments on mine, I enjoy the debate. I wasn’t trying to turn your blog into a political one, jsut putting down my thoughts. I guess I’ll only post a comment when I agree from now on. Sorry again.
Deanna Piercy says
Donna, did you see the comment I posted above yours? I don’t mind disagreeing comments at all and I do enjoy people leaving comments on my blog. I could have shut off the comments if it was a problem but so far I’ve never done so. Nor have I ever censored a comment.
I was merely trying to explain that my motives were misunderstood to begin with. Don’t worry about “turning my blog into a political one”. What happens in the comments is one thing but I’m the one who controls the content of the posts. I have very definite political beliefs and I take them seriously. However, I’ve chosen not to use this blog to promote my viewpoint in any serious way. At least for now.
I am working on a humorous, pseudo-political post which I hope to have up soon but it is not meant to be taken seriously. Life is serious enough on its own. The U.S. economy is tanking, the Gulf Coast is still reeling from two recent hurricanes (not to mention the lingering effects of Katrina), we are still involved in a war, and on a more personal note, I’ve watched a dear friend die recently. I could allow these and other situations to swallow me up in melancholy and depression (or anger), but I choose instead to look for the absurdities and humor in life and to laugh.
During the two weeks my friend was actively dying, she continuously amazed us all with frequent funny comments. She knew she was dying. She knew she was leaving her husband and daughters behind. Of course she had her moments of personal sadness about this. But right up to the end she was also able to make jokes about things, including the fact she was dying. I believe that part of the reason she could do that was because she had such a firm faith in God and believed without a shadow of doubt that He would see them all through this. That’s the way I feel about the current election. Sure, the election of our next president is serious business and we should all care about it. But at the same time, I think it’s perfectly okay to enjoy a little humor along the way. As my grandmother so often says, “God is still on the throne” and I trust Him, no matter the outcome of this particular election. So stay tuned for more attempts at humor. 🙂

Whoa girlfriend, you’ve caused general ransackery! Maybe I should start poking fun of politicians and see if I can drum up some more readers. Keep it real sister! Rebecca

I’ll just have one of those cafe-mocha-vodka-valiums thingies to go, please.
Deanna Piercy says
Rebecca – “Ransackery”…I love that.:)
Deanna Piercy says
Jaci- Perhaps I’ll join you in one this afternoon. (g)

We both are causing trouble 🙂
Mine with the anonymous poster, heck that generated more comments then I’ve ever seen. I didn’t watch the video because it sounded terrible, like the chipmonks, ouch.
I’m one of those that doesn’t like Monty Python either 🙂
