IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
Monday…
I picked up our grocery order, took food to my mom, ordered flowers for my aunt’s birthday, did the basic daily housework, wrote the “This Week” post and did the daily admin tasks.
David had a firefighter meeting so dinner was rather late. I made a really good pasta casserole with Italian sausage and served it with salad and garlic bread.
Tuesday…
I wrote the weekly Grocery Haul post and had a Zoom call at 3 p.m. For dinner we had lentil tacos, Mexican rice and chips & queso.
Wednesday…
David left for a quick business trip to South Texas. I took him to town around noon to pick up the rental car. After I dropped him off I got some lunch, took a book back to a friend, picked up my mom’s prescriptions and a couple of things at Braum’s. I then drove to my mom’s to drop off her things.
Chris picked up sushi for the two of us for dinner and we watched “The Awful Truth” together. It’s a Cary Grant movie and we really enjoyed it.
Thursday…
I did my usual daily home and work tasks…nothing out of the ordinary. Chris and I had fish, twice-baked potatoes, broccoli and salad for dinner.
David got home about 9:30 p.m. He had been up since before 5 a.m. and was very tired!
Friday…
I did the regular daily home-keeping tasks and basic blog work. David was working on the bathroom remodeling so I did the grilling. We had cheeseburgers, homemade fries, and macaroni salad for dinner.
Saturday…
I washed the sheets, remade the bed, vacuumed the entry hall, used the blower on the front porch, walkway and patio.
We have an archway in our entry hall and I have seasonal decor that goes over it. I switched from the spring/summer swag to the fall one. This turned out to be way more involved than I expected. I keep all of our wreaths and these archway swags in zippered bags that are then hung in our storage closet. Normally David gets these bags down for me because they are out of my reach. But since he was busy working on the bathroom I didn’t want to ask him. I got a chair to stand on and was able to get them down (all of them because I wasn’t sure which one it was in). But trying to rehang them was the challenge. I got out the longest tongs I have and eventually was able to get them back up. I later told David that I need one of those grabber things. Does that mean I’m officially old or just not tall enough? Ha!
Here are the bags, in case you need something like that:
Sunday…
We had planned to have Charlotte over this afternoon but she had not slept well the night before. It was decided that another time would be better. As much as David and I would have loved to see her, we did both have a lot of other work to do so it was all for the best. We’ll hopefully have her over on Friday afternoon instead. And since it will be close enough to Halloween by then, we can go ahead and carve a pumpkin with her.
In addition to my usual household tasks and preparing for the week ahead, I dusted the buffet, coffee table, pine dining table, drop leaf table and card/puzzle table in the family room (yes, we have a lot of tables!). I then changed out the placemats and other decor from summer to fall.
For dinner we had hot dogs and leftover twice-baked potatoes.
After we ate dinner and cleaned up the kitchen, I started coloring my hair. While the dye was doing its thing, I called my mom to get her grocery order. I added her items to the order I had already started for our groceries. After I finished the hair coloring process, I took a shower. I finished up a few things online, watched a YouTube video or two and then we went to bed. It was already 11 p.m. so we just watched an episode of “Leave it to Beaver” rather than the hour long “The Gilded Age”. David fell asleep immediately (as usual) and I read a little while.

THIS WEEK
Monday…
I’m pleased to report that I did my morning exercises first thing this morning. After I came downstairs I got dressed, did my hair and put on makeup. I started a load of laundry and then went to our library for my morning routine. My usual routine consists of making my daily to-do list, journaling, meditation, taking blood pressure and reading from several books. After that I made the bed.
I then picked up our grocery order. David asked me to pick up lunch while in town. Chris met me at the car and helped me carry in the groceries. He’s off work this week so the three of us had lunch together. Chris put away the clean dishes from the dishwasher after lunch. I put away our groceries then went to my office to get the daily admin work done – Facebook group and page notifications, blog comments, a quick scan of email.
At 2 p.m. I had a Zoom call. It was the type where I could listen and still get a little work done at the same time. Yeah, I know…this month’s LWD Challenge is to focus on one thing at a time. I’m so bad at that, especially when I feel like I’ve got a lot to do.
After my Zoom call I’ll check with my mom and see if she needs her groceries today or if I can bring them tomorrow. I ordered some things from Amazon for her and they’ll be here tomorrow. I’d like to take everything in one trip but we’ll see…
Tuesday…
I’ve got a couple of projects I’d like to work on. I do need to write the weekly grocery haul post but hopefully I can do that quickly and can spend some concentrated time and energy on projects I keep putting off.
Wednesday…
I have a Zoom call at four. We then have plans with friends this evening. We are going to meet up for Mexican food and margaritas. We are taking advantage of this lovely weather!
Thursday…
I have a Zoom call at noon. Otherwise I’m planning to continue working on a writing project.
Friday…
If it works out with everyone I’d like to pick up Charlotte and bring her to play at our house this afternoon. Hopefully we can carve a pumpkin with her.
Saturday…
David will be continuing working on the bathroom remodeling. I’m now washing sheets on Saturdays and trying to get housework done.
Sunday…
Make menu, order groceries, schedule social media and plan the week ahead.
READING
Finished…
I finished James last week and it was SO, SO good!
James by Percival Everett
I read one of Fiona Ferris’ books, 100 Ways to Live a Soft, Calm Life. I always enjoy her books and find inspiration within each one.
Tom Lake: A Novel by Ann Patchett
I have less than an hour left of the audiobook (read by the incomparable Meryl Streep) and have enjoyed this one so very much.
Currently reading…
The same friend who lent me James, also shared another book she highly recommended – The Many Lives of Mama Love: A Memoir of Lying, Stealing, Writing, and Healing by Lara Love Hardin. I started it a couple of days ago and wow…I am hooked!
Other books ongoing…
The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady ~ Edith Holden
An Incomplete Education ~ Judy Jones and William Wilson
On our recent trip to South Texas, David and I listened to an audiobook on Audible:
Around the World in 80 Trains: A 45,000 Mile Adventure by Monisha Rajesh
If you don’t already have Audible, you can get a free trial here. We’ve definitely been enjoying it on long drives.
SELF CARE
I finally colored my hair yesterday. It really needed it! I put another coat of clear polish on my fingernails. I didn’t get my toenails done but tonight for sure!
HEALTH & FITNESS
I’m getting back into my morning exercise routine so I’m feeling good about that. Chris and I have been taking walks together and that’s been nice.
FUN ACTIVITIES
Dinner with friends Wednesday, carving a pumpkin with Charlotte Friday (hopefully!) and a couple of nights of stargazing. I also really want to figure out how to work in time for coloring on a regular basis.
