IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
Things have been rather *interesting* around here. David had emergency surgery Friday, October 29th. He was released from the hospital Sunday the 31st and was home from work Monday through Wednesday. We were supposed to have gone on a short trip but obviously that was canceled. Last week was just a “maintenance” sort as I took care of David. We are grateful he had a good outcome and is healing well. I don’t mind saying it was a bit scary there for awhile, though.
THIS WEEK
I don’t have high expectations for anything beyond daily essentials this week. Today I am taking my mom to meet with the director of a nursing home. Sadly, my dad has become too much for her to take care of at home. He has Alzheimers, diabetes, and Myasthenia Gravis. He is falling repeatedly and she can’t lift him. I have no idea what will be expected of me regarding my dad so I’m not putting anything else on my plate for the next several days.
WORK
Our nonprofit events are pretty much over for the winter except for providing music the afternoon of December 4th before the Christmas parade. We have a number of behind-the-scenes projects to do such as updating the websites, finding a new accountant, starting an email newsletter, etc. This week I’d like to make a list of these tasks and prioritize them.
I’m also giving NaNoWriMo a whirl again this year. I’ve yet to complete it but hope springs eternal. I’m not writing a novel but rather, am working on a non-fiction project I’ve had in the works. I’d love to at least have a completed rough draft by the end of the month.
READING
Since the last update I’ve finished The Honor Girl by Grace Livingston Hill and this month’s LWD Book Club selection, The End of Summer by Rosamunde Pilcher. I’m still reading The Midnight Library.
SELF CARE
Self care is going to be especially important for me this week. I think I’ll need the escape of extra reading, for one thing. I also want to take a short walk outdoors each day as it looks like we’ll have warm weather.
HEALTH & FITNESS
I’d like to start meal prepping on Sundays so I can send lunches with David and Chris Monday through Thursday. They can get takeout on Fridays. I spent a little time this weekend watching meal prep videos on YouTube. If you do this and have any great recipes or tips to share I’d love to hear them!
FUN ACTIVITIES
We don’t have anything on the calendar but I’m hoping we can have a home movie night or two.
HABIT OF THE WEEK
I have gotten out of the meditation habit the past week or two. I’d like to get back on track with that.

I’m glad David is doing well, but sorry your Dad’s health has declined to the point where your Mom can no longer take care of him herself. I hope you can get him situated in a nursing home where he’ss happy and taken care of well.
Good luck with NaNoWriMo. I never participate. Most of the time I don’t need the push to get writing done, and this year I don’t need the stress of worrying about whether I’m on track for my word count. I have a writing project I hope to have finished by the end of the month, but it doesn’t come close to the NaNoWriMo word count, and I’m not considering it a personal NaNoWriMo challenge.
As for my week…
Monday: hospital in the afternoon, roleplaying in the evening.
Tuesday: Dad coming over for gaming and dinner.
Wednesday: roleplaying in the evening.
Friday: Zoom book club in the evening.
Saturday: it’s my birthday, and Mam is coming over for a while.
Since Thursday and Sunday have nothing going on, and will hopefully stay that way, I plan to use Thursday to get some stuff caught up online (and maybe also get some writing in) and Sunday for a crafting and reading day (especially since I really need to get caught up on my reading, because at this rate I’m not even going to come close to my goal for the year unless I do something about it quickly).
And I can’t share my menu, because I don’t have one.

Oh my goodness, what a week for you! I’m glad your husband is on the mend, but very sorry to hear about your dad. My own father is dealing with this with my grandmother now and I know it’s been tough. Big hugs to you; that’s a lot of stress at once. Be good to yourself during this stressful time!
I’ve been cleaning out my daughter’s room a little each day; it’s my main project and it’s slowly shaping up. She wants some of her toys shifted around (swapping the dollhouse in her room out for her kitchen in the basement), so this will allow that to happen at some point in the future, possibly over Thanksgiving break. I’ve also started (slowly!) a Pilates regimen that my physiatrist has recommended. I’m enjoying it so far, but oof, I can definitely see that I need it!
