THIS WEEK WITH DEE
This week’s post is going to be short and sweet. David and I leave Thursday morning for New Orleans. We’ll be celebrating our 40th anniversary in the city where we honeymooned oh, so long ago. We usually visit a couple of times a year but due to the pandemic we haven’t been in a couple of years. I am SO excited!
I’m listening to New Orleans jazz and sipping Community Coffee with chicory as I write today’s post. Yep, getting in the mood!

IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
I did get several home tasks done last week. I throughly dusted the two bookcases at the top of the stairs. Boy, were they dusty! I took everything off and decluttered a couple of silk flower arrangements that had seen better days.
I’m proud to say I pulled 24 books from those shelves that I’m wiling to part with. I took my reading journal upstairs and removed almost all of the fiction books I’d already read. At this point of my life I’m not likely to re-read very many books when there are so many more I’ve never read.
I’ll be doing some book giveaways here on the blog in the coming months so keep an eye out if you’d like the chance to win 8-10 books from my personal collection.
I cleaned out two kitchen drawers. I had done these a couple of years ago so they were in pretty decent shape overall. But I relocated a number of items from what used to be our junk drawer and threw out some old spices from one of my spice drawers. Both drawers got a good wiping out while I was at it.
I wiped down the porch table, washed the chair cushions and used the blower on the front porch. I also trimmed the ivy that was threatening to take over the front step and some on the side of the porch. I still need to do more trimming but it’s a start.
And because what is life in the country without a critter, I had a snake “incident”. I had already trimmed the ivy and was taking off the chair cushions when I heard something at the far end of the porch. Dharma, our main hunter cat, was staring at something. You guessed it. It was a snake. It was fairly small and wasn’t moving. I hollered at her and she sauntered off. I thought it was dead but wasn’t sure. The other three cats had to come investigate. And of course, David wasn’t home. I called Chris to come over and deal with it. David said I probably scared it out of the ivy that I had just been trimming. Nice. And now I want to move to a city apartment several stories up.
THIS WEEK
My home tasks for this week are limited to just the things I need to do before we leave!
My goals for the next three days…
- finish all laundry and pack
- clean house
- hair appointment today – my first since the pandemic began!
- drop off decluttered items
- drop off recycling
- mail cards
- take Father’s Day card to my dad
- try to finish up some work for our foundation’s music festival – I’d like to not work during our vacation but I doubt that will be possible.
We don’t return until late Monday, June 28th (or maybe Tuesday) so there won’t be a “This Week” post for the next two Mondays. I’m hoping to get a couple of blog posts scheduled during my time away but I’m not sure if I’ll have time.

I’m glad the snake incident wasn’t more of an incident, if you know what I mean. Hope you enjoy your trip away. Happy anniversary!
Last week I got the paperback versions of my books approved, and they’re now available. I also made it to both my roleplaying session and my book club, got a little more organizing done in the craft room and computer room, got some reading in (though not as much as I had planned to) and finished one of the craft projects I wanted to get finished (a knitted dog I’m making for a friend of my Grandma… The still living Grandmother). Oh, and I had a hospital trip for some blood tests too.
This week I have roleplaying sessions on both Monday and Tuesday evening, book club on Friday evening, and my monthly Zoom crafternoon session on Saturday. I also need to get the knitted toy I finally finished packaged up to go where it needs to go, and get it and a few other things in the mail. I’m meant to be getting the results for the blood test this week too. I’d like to also make more progress with organizing the stuff in the craft room and computer room, clean out the dogs’ toybox to get rid of any damaged toys, finish the crochet scarf, and start working on some squares I need to knit for a charity thing my craft group is doing. Oh, and I need to order this month’s pills for Lilie, and book both dogs in for their shots (which are due at the end of the month).
As for my menu… Well, I actually only have Monday through Wednesday figured out, but here’s what I’ve got:
Monday: poutine, vegan style (AKA fries with vegan cheese and gravy).
Tuesday and Wednesday: tofu salad and a baked potato.

You’ve got a busy week! Congrats on getting your books approved. Hope the blood test results are good.

Thanks. I managed to get the results yesterday afternoon… They’re good, but not fantastic; could have been better, but at least my levels had improved from when I was tested last time, which is what we wanted to see.
Deanna Piercy says
At least it’s progress. Hopefully things will continue to improve.
