THIS WEEK WITH DEE
You’ve no doubt noticed this didn’t get posted on Monday. David’s 60th birthday was Saturday and we went to OKC for a couple of nights. We came home late Monday afternoon and I just didn’t have time to finish this. Better late than never, though, right?
As I am writing this, I’ve got my Paris Café candle going and I’m sipping a glass of San Pellegrino sparkling mineral water in a pretty goblet. I’m using one of my glass straws (the ones I have are no longer available). I am still trying to increase my water intake and this makes it a little more fun. Not as good as hot tea or coffee but it’s a step up from plain tap water.
Today’s ambience is classical guitar renditions of The Beatles. What is your favorite Beatles song? My husband’s is “Imagine” and mine is “Let it Be”.

IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
We had a couple of serious family medical issues last week (not in our household) that affected my usual routine. I kept up with the day-to-day home tasks but that’s about it. I’m just glad that both relatives are doing better.
THIS WEEK
HOME TASKS…
This week is Zone 2 – the Kitchen and Pantry.
Three summers ago I did a major decluttering/organizing of a large part of my kitchen. I did 13 or 14 of my kitchen cabinets and 8 of the 9 drawers. I’ve done a pretty good job keeping them in good order since but I’d like to spend some time this week going through at least some of them again. I’m sure there are more things I can get rid of. If I have time I’ll also do that 9th drawer and maybe one of the remaining cabinets.
I need to set aside time to work on a summer routine for home tasks. Maybe this weekend…
WORK
I have a neglected writing project I’d like to get back to this week.
READING
I finished a couple of books but still haven’t finished the May book club selection. Nor have I started the June book. I need to pick up the pace in order to meet my Goodreads goal for 2021! I’ve read 16 books but I’m 4 books behind schedule.
SELF CARE
I’m keeping reading on my self care goal for this week. I’d also like to play the piano a little each day.
HEALTH AND FITNESS
My goals remain the same: More water, more exercise, intermittent fasting.
FUN ACTIVITIES
I will likely watch a movie with Chris on Thursday as we usually try to do. Last week we watched Cabaret. Apparently neither of us had ever seen it!
Sunday afternoon we are hosting Music in the Park, the first one we’ve done since the pandemic began! It will be nice to have live music again.
HABIT OF THE WEEK
I’d like to make a daily glass of sparkling mineral water part of my routine.

So hard to pick a Beatle song – I love so many! I’m going to go with “I Will,” “Woman,” and “Imagine,” but I love nearly all of their earlier songs. I’m so glad you got to go away for the weekend. Were you at all concerned about being in a hotel again? My menus will be drastically changing since I need to go back on a low-carb AND low-fat diet — how do you do that? Add gluten-free to that and I just want to kill myself. Food shouldn’t be such a burden! My self care includes reading and playing the piano, doing some daily calisthenics and watching vintage shows on tv — I’m currently enjoying “The Loretta Young Show” from the 1950’s. Language practice is diminishing but I’m trying to Duolingo at least a few times each week. I’m saving up my house tidying to the end of the week when my daughter arrives! No point in doing it twice! I’ve started re-reading “Elegance” and enjoying it all over again, Even if you don’t get to it, I’m happy for the suggestion. Have a lovely week!

You’re right about it being hard to choose a favorite – so many great songs!
We have been to this hotel 3 or 4 times during the pandemic because they have been doing a GREAT job keeping things safe. David is a Diamond member with Hilton and can check into our room without going to the front desk. They had been requiring everyone to mask and were sanitizing everything. We would go straight to our room, spray everything with Lysol and then spend the whole visit in our room, ordering room service.
This time, I set aside my usual EXTREME caution and we went to the hotel bar, something David really enjoys. It wasn’t crowded and with the 20 foot ceiling and one whole wall open to the huge lobby I felt like it was reasonably safe. We are vaccinated and there are only around 950 active cases in the whole state. David is very much an extrovert and he’s just about reached his limit of not being able to interact with people. I’m trying not to spend the next several days worrying about that potential exposure – ha!
Low fat, low carb AND gluten-free? Good luck. I actually tested moderately allergic to wheat so I should be avoiding it. Am I? Not especially. 😉
Have a great visit with your daughter!

I did notice the lateness of the post. Was worried about where it was. Gla it was your trip away that caused the delay… Hope it was a good trip, and David enjoyed his birthday?
I’m with David: Imagine is my favourite Beetles song.
Sorry about the family medical issues, but glad the people in question are doing better. Hope they continue to improve.
I did a great job of getting everything I planned to do last week done, despite the het making me not want to do anything. Oh, and if you remember me saying something last week about doing something with jackfruit for dinner, but not having decided for sure what… I made jackfruit toccos with most of it, and then served the leftovers over some jasmine rice with peas. Just in case you were curious as to what I ended up doing. I also finally got around to trying a vegan French toast recipe I was given a few months ago, which I kept meaning to try. And, yes, it was very good.
This week involves potentially approving the paperback versions of the two poetry books I recently published (assuming the proofs are OK) and more organization in the craft room. There’s also roleplaying (though there wouldn’t have been this week, because the GM isn’t available, but I’ve joined a second game) and my Zoombook club. Other than that I’m trying to finish up the craft projects I was doing when I hurt my hand a couple of months ago so that I can get to the others that are piling up, and also need to do some serious reading due to veing very behind on my Goodreads reading challenge. Luckily, I can work on the crafts while I read, so those will go well together, assuming I do a better job at trying to make time for them before I’m too tired to do much.
As for my menu for this week…
Monday: garlic roast potatoes with broccoli and cauliflower.
Tuesday: leftovers.
Wednesday: sweet-and-sour tofu with jasmine rice and peas.
Thursday through Sunday: I haven’t decided 100% exactly what I’ll have each day at this point, but it will be variations on salads, playing mix-and-match with various ingredients to make them slightly different (different types of vegan cheeses, with or without tofu, with or without sunflower seeds, served with a baked potato or potato salad, etc, for example).

Sorry for the typos… It’s early here. That’s my excuse anyhow. 😉

We really had a nice trip – thanks! Good job getting everything done. That must feel great. It’s a rarity when that happens for me. I really would like to try jackfruit one of these days. It sounds so interesting and we like most anything in a taco. Good luck with your to-do list for this week!
Tori says
Yes, it’s a wonderful feeling. I know what you mean about it being a rare thing to achieve though. 😉
You should definitely try it… I think you might like jackfruit, especially considering it would lend itself very well to recipes like the BBQ enchilada thing you posted the other day.

My favorite Beatle song is If I Fell. It is the first 45 record I bought in the fifth grade. That is when I discovered music other than the classical music my mother listened to on the record player. I asked for a record player of my own for Christmas.
Family always pulls us away from our immediate life. I am always grateful I am able to be where I am needed, as I know you are.
Truth be told, I did not read last month’s book selection. I had several that I wanted to read, so sent it back to the library. Elegance arrived yesterday from the library. It is going to the top of my list to read.
Never, ever think you are failing at any of your goals. Be grateful that you always have a book close by to read when you have a moment. Goals are meant to encourage you, Let your mind and body lead the day.
As always, your posts are lovely.

Those first music purchases are such special memories. My parents bought me a nice stereo for my 12th birthday and I loved going to sleep at night listening to music. It was David who truly expanded my music exposure when we began dating as teenagers. His siblings are 5-10 years older and he grew up listening to The Beatles as well as a much broader variety of music than I had. It’s one of our greatest passions we share.
You are right about being able to be there for family. It was a difficult week but I’m glad I could help at least a little.
I still haven’t finished last month’s book, nor started this month’s. Oh, well… Thank you for the words of wisdom. That really helps. Have a lovely week.

Yes, so many great songs! I’ll pass along your birthday wishes. Happy birthday to your 30 year old!
I like Topo Chico, too, and we can often get it at Aldi. I need to add it to my next order. Have a great weekend!
