This Week With Dee – where I share our menu, my planned home tasks for the week, what I’m reading, self care plans and more. I hope it will give you some ideas for planning your own week or at least a glimpse of one homemaker’s life.

IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
We were out of town from May 21-29. David had a business trip and I accompanied him. I think he said he drove over 2500 miles! We went through Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas. Whew! We finished up the business portion of the trip then spent two nights in Nashville before heading home. I know we were both ready to get out of the car and sleep in our own bed.
Last week was mostly spent on “re-entry” and catching up after the trip.
THIS WEEK
Today is David’s birthday, as I mentioned above. We will be celebrating with a couple of nights in the city this weekend.
I don’t plan to take on any extra household tasks this week. I’ll, of course keep up with the usual…dishes, laundry, bed making, tidying up.
WORK
My main goal for this week is working on the blog and getting social media scheduled as far out as I can. I’d like to get the whole summer scheduled soon. I then have a project I want to focus on this summer. I’m trying to free up as much time as possible for that.
READING
Have you joined the LWD Reading Challenge in the private Facebook group? We are committing to at least 15 minutes of uninterrupted reading time every day for the month of June. Of course, if you already do that, you can set your own goal.

David and I listened to an entire audiobook on our trip, as well as part of another. I completed two books last week:
Loving Your Epic Small Life by Fiona Ferris
One Year to an Organized Life by Regina Leeds
SELF CARE
The last time I did a “This Week” post I said my self care task was to color my hair. I did it before we left on our trip. I also did a manicure and pedicure. However, I need to do both again before we go out of town this weekend.
HEALTH & FITNESS
I have started a new morning routine that includes a short walk outdoors before I settle in with my tea and books in the library. This morning was my first time and it was so nice. The weather was perfect AND I saw a deer in our yard. One of our cats, Dharma, accompanied on my walk.
I’d also like for David and I to get in the habit of taking another short walk after lunch and then again after dinner. But my main focus this week is the morning walk.
FUN ACTIVITIES
This past Friday was National Donut Day. Our local donut shop doesn’t open until around 10 p.m. but that didn’t stop us. We picked up donuts for ourselves and also for our adult “kids” in town. Charlotte got all excited when she saw the box. She definitely enjoyed her glazed donut. I don’t know if it was all that smart of us to hype up a toddler on sugar that late at night but I suppose that’s what grandparents are for – ha! We decided we will try to make a donut run/delivery a monthly treat.
HABIT OF THE MONTH (June)
My habit of the month is the reading challenge. I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump and want to regain my former reading habits.

I have my menu plan set. This is the last week of our Green Chef boxes for awhile. We like to take a break once in awhile from that. It makes meal planning and cooking a lot less stressful for me since I work full time and my husband is a picky eater. He picks the meals to be delivered and then I cook them. But sometimes, we just need a break.
I have a women’s group equine therapy this Saturday and I’m rather looking forward to it.
For reading this week, I’m still working through Letting Go of Good by Andrea Mathews (non fiction) and then for fiction, I’ll have to find something to read. I’m thinking I might re-start the Anne of Green Gables series if the library has them available. That set is on my wishlist to own but I have other priorities for funds at the time.

I keep thinking of trying one of those meal services. Maybe I could convince my husband and son that they could cook once in awhile – ha!
Anne of Green Gables is always a good choice. 🙂

What a coincidence. Hubby’s birthday is this week and he asked for cherry pie. I’m making him shrimp sauteed in onions, mushrooms garlic and white wine served over rice. That’s what he wants.
Deanna Piercy says
Happy birthday to your husband! David’s grandmother used to bake him cherry pies for his birthday and I’ve just continued the tradition for him. We ended up going out Monday so postponed the birthday dinner and pie to last night. He was very happy with it. In fact, I suspect he might have had some for breakfast this morning – ha!

Hope David had a great birthday, and you enjoy your trip at the end of the week to celebrate it. I’m sure Charlotte was very happy to see the doughnut box. And, yes, that’s what grandparents are for. 😉
As I said when I signed up for the challenge, I’m good at getting reading done, but not so much with sitting down with a book and only focusing on that, so I’m trying to get in the habit of reading in braille for a while each day. I’ve missed a couple of days, but managed to do it most days. Hopefully I’ll get better at not missing days as the month goes on.
I have Zoom calls most days this week: the cooking call and a crafting call on Tuesday, a Zoom call to celebrate the third anniversary of ACB Crafters starting up on Wednesday, loom knitting on Thursday, a crafty chat where one of the other members of the admin team is being interviewed on Friday, needle knitting on Saturday, and the 18th and 19th century bookclub on Sunday. We also have someone here most of this week doing some repair work on the house (and messing up some of my organization progress in the process… Which is frustrating, but I can’t really complain as the work does need to get done). Not to mention, my Mam’s current health status means we have one of her dogs (the other one has gone elsewhere). With all that going on, I have to admit I’m rather relieved the warmer weather means I’m more inclined to just throw together a salad of some kind for dinner, because then I don’t need to find the mental energy to figure out a menu, or the physical energy to do more than chop a few veggies.
Deanna Piercy says
I’m sorry your mom is having health problems. Sounds like you have another busy week! Hope the repair work goes smoothly.

Thanks.
