THIS WEEK WITH DEE
How about some vintage Big Band Jazz?
MENU:
You may notice several repeats from last week’s menu. For a variety of reasons, much of my planned menu didn’t happen. Some weeks are like that, right? So I just rolled over those missed meals to this week.
Monday…
- Busy Day Swiss Steak
- mashed potatoes
- carrots
- salad
- crusty French rolls
Tuesday…
- Mexican casserole
- guacamole and tortilla chips
Wednesday…
I’ll use the leftover mashed potatoes from Monday for this recipe.
- turkey shepherd’s pie
- salad
Thursday…
Our local arts association hosts an annual event that includes food along with an art auction. It’s more of a tasting than a full meal so we’ll eat a heavier lunch and just enjoy little “tastes” at the event.
- Taste of Ada event
Friday…
- baked cod (Chris and me) or chicken (David)
- rice
- broccoli
- salad
Saturday…
- leftovers
Sunday…
- Caesar salad with grilled chicken
IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
Monday…
I took a thank you gift to a friend and picked up our grocery order.
Cooked food for Mom and took it to her while David went to his volunteer fire department board meeting. I ended up being at Mom’s until after 7 p.m. and didn’t want to cook that late. Instead I picked up chicken strip dinners at Braum’s.
Made bed, watered houseplants and did dishes.
Wrote a blog post.
Tuesday…
I had a three hour Zoom call.
Washed sheets and remade bed. Folded another load of laundry. Watered outdoor plants.
Finished a blog post and did some social media scheduling.
Watched the Presidential debate
Wednesday…
Made bed, did dishes and a load of laundry.
Zoom call
wrote part of a blog post
Thursday…
I picked up Lisa and we headed to the city for the Edith Head exhibit. Chris was already in the city and we met up with him and three of his friends. The exhibit was phenomenal! It took up the entire third floor of the museum.
Friday…
Regular household tasks
Met up with friends after work for drinks. Ended up chatting for over 2 hours so we picked up Italian food to go at the restaurant next door.
Saturday…
Washed towels, folded laundry, emptied dishwasher and hand washed some, cleaned the downstairs bathroom, vacuumed traffic areas downstairs
Wrote a blog post
Sunday…
Wrote our weekly menu and placed grocery order
Ordered a couple of stocking stuffers for Christmas
Created a dozen new graphics for blog-related social media and scheduled them for this week
THIS WEEK
Monday…
I picked up my grocery order. Ordinarily I would be cooking some food and taking it along with groceries to my mom but her refrigerator broke down last night. The repairman is supposed to fix it tomorrow so in the meantime I am keeping the groceries I bought for her at my house.
In addition to this blog post, I will be outlining another to go out tomorrow. I also need to do some social media scheduling.
I need to water houseplants and outdoor plants, including my tomato plants.
I’m trying to get back into my evening leisure time routine so tonight I’ll enjoy one of my new magazines.
Tuesday…
I’ll do some cooking for my mom and take her groceries to her.
Wash the sheets and remake the bed.
Finish and publish a blog post
Evening Leisure: listen to an album
Try to catch the lunar eclipse.
Wednesday…
Take my mom for her pedicure appointment at noon
Zoom call
Drop off my car for Matt and Joy to borrow while theirs is being repaired. It really needs a good washing and vacuuming so we’ll do that before we take it to them.
Evening Leisure: Coloring
Thursday…
Give the house a good once over. Nothing too intense but just get it in good shape so I can enjoy my Friday without much work.
Taste of Ada event
Evening Leisure: Start a puzzle (depending on what time we get home from the event)
Friday…
I used to designate Fridays as a day to do mostly just what I wanted, with an emphasis on self care and some French-style living. It’s been years, though, and I’m more than ready to implement my French Fridays again.
Watch a French movie.
At home date night: Cocktails and an episode or two of “The O.C.”
Saturday…
Start decorating for autumn
Schedule social media for the week ahead
Sunday…
Wash sheets
Plan the upcoming week
Make menu
Order groceries

An Incomplete Education ~ Judy Jones and William Wilson
David and I are still listening to:
All the Time in the World by John Gierach
We have a little over an hour left and are trying to listen about 20 minutes each night in bed. Should finish it this week.
If you don’t already have Audible, you can get a free trial here. We’ve definitely been enjoying it on long drives.
SELF CARE
I did a pedicure last week but didn’t get my fingernails polished. I normally just wear clear polish on my hands and I bought a really good, nail protecting formula polish. However, I can’t find it. I am pretty sure I last used it just before one of our trips and put it in one of my travel bags to take with us. I’ve looked but so far, it hasn’t turned up. It’s probably in a purse or bag in my closet. However, my closet is taped over with plastic and duct tape while David is remodeling our bathroom. I guess I’ll just order another bottle. My nails are very dry and brittle (likely due to the autoimmune disease I have) so I really do need to get something on them.
HEALTH & FITNESS
I wrote in last week’s post that I would take advantage of the nicer weather and walk outdoors. I managed it only once last week. Must keep trying!
FUN ACTIVITIES
Taste of Ada event, coloring, listening to an album, start a puzzle, watch a French film, view the lunar eclipse and see Charlotte. We didn’t get to see her last week. David did get to see her this morning though. Matt and Joy’s car needs a repair so David followed Joy over to drop it off at the car dealership. Charlotte went with them and asked for donuts. Of course Grampa said yes! They will be borrowing my car later this week so we’ll get to see Charlotte when we drop it off for them.
