It’s time for the final LWD Book Club selection for 2020. What a weird year it has been but one thing that remains a constant is the pleasure of a good book. I’ve selected an old favorite, At Home in Mitford, for December. Some books are worth revisiting and this is one of them.

At Home in Mitford
I first read At Home in Mitford back in the mid-90s. I had a copy of the book but ended up borrowing the audio version from the public library so I could listen in the car. I was working as a hospice nurse at the time and spent a lot of time on the road. It was a stressful time and this sweet and gentle story was a comfort.
Many (most?) of us are under a lot of stress right now due to the pandemic and its associated effects. I think this is the perfect time to enjoy a book like At Home in Mitford. It is full of interesting and quirky characters and just the right amount of intrigue along with a budding romance.
If you haven’t enjoyed this book before you might find this the perfect time for it. And if you have read it in the past, as I have, I don’t need to convince you of the pleasure you’ll find getting to know the charming characters of Mitford. And if you fall in love with the characters you’re in luck…it’s just the first of a series!
At Home in Mitford
by Jan Karon
It’s easy to feel at home in Mitford. In these high, green hills, the air is pure, the village is charming, and the people are generally lovable. Yet, Father Tim, the bachelor rector, wants something more. Enter a dog the size of a sofa who moves in and won’t go away. Add an attractive neighbor who begins wearing a path through the hedge. Now, stir in a lovable but unloved boy, a mystifying jewel theft, and a secret that’s sixty years old. Suddenly, Father Tim gets more than he bargained for. And readers get a rich comedy about ordinary people and their ordinary lives.

I’m really looking forward to it, myself.
Please explain…is there actually book club with participation? If so. please give details. Thank you!
I’d love to do a live, online book club at some point but for now it’s just monthly book recommendations.
