IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
It was quite a week! My mom was able to go home from the rehab unit on Friday and I picked her up. I think the physical therapy was good for her and we are hopeful that she will continue to gain strength. In the meantime, she’s not driving so my brother (who lives next door to her) and I are taking care of getting whatever she needs.
Thursday evening before she was released I picked up some basic groceries for her to get her through the weekend. Then today I did a grocery pickup order and dropped off her requested items. I’ve also ordered some things from Amazon for her.
On Sunday afternoon we had our belated Christmas celebration with Matt, Joy and little Charlotte. It was SO much fun to see Charlotte open her gifts. The “big” item we got her was a Brio train set and she loved it! David has always been into trains himself so I foresee the day he will build a big HO-scale train set for the two of them.
I am on a year-long mission to declutter and organize my home. I did three small projects last week:
- I cleared out a paper grocery bag full of (very) expired ground coffee from the cabinet under the counter where we have our electric kettle. There is still a lot in that cabinet to sort through but I just had a few minutes and decided to do what I could during that time.
- Under our master bathroom sink I have a plastic bin for my toiletries. David has a smaller one for his. I went through mine, threw out a few items and moved some others to a different location. I’m not entirely certain why I had half a dozen different types of open deodorant sticks in there. I kept the one I’m currently using and moved the others to the box where I keep toiletry backups.
- We still have our CD collection and no plans to let it go. However, they needed to be better organized. I had some in the kitchen cabinet above our under-cabinet mounted cd player. But we rarely use that as anything other than a clock and timer since we added a 5-CD changer to the stereo system in the library. It just made sense to have all of our CDs in one location. I bought this set of four CD storage boxes which just about holds our collection. I need just one more box but I’m going to buy another set so there is room to expand. Or I can give a couple of them away. They come packed flat so they don’t take up much space.
THIS WEEK
As mentioned above, I picked up a grocery order today:
Our son, Chris, has a birthday on Wednesday. I’ll be making a favorite meal of his (Sour Cream Green Chili Enchiladas) and cherry cobbler for dessert.
I’ll be continuing my ongoing decluttering/organizing project. I need to reorganize the cabinets at the bottom of our built-in bookshelves in the library. This is where I want to keep the CD storage boxes. I’ll *try* to find some books to give away and otherwise make room for the storage boxes.
WORK
You may have noticed that I didn’t get any blog posts done last week. That is high on my priority list this week!
READING
I finished The Girls of Mulberry Lane by Rosie Clarke and started the second in the series:
I’m really enjoying Rosie Clarke’s books!
Currently reading:
The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady ~ Edith Holden
This was a gift from my daughter and son-in-law for Christmas. I will be reading from it throughout the year.
An Incomplete Education ~ Judy Jones and William Wilson
I’ve had an old edition of this for ages. I’ve read parts of it in the past but decided to read through the entire book this year. If I read 2-3 pages a day I’ll finish it in a year.
Celia’s House ~ D.E. Stevenson
I’m about half way through this one.
We still need to set aside at least one evening a week to listen to an hour of Undaunted Courage: Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, and the Opening of the American West, an audiobook we began on our last road trip. We still have 13 hours left!
If you don’t already have Audible, you can get a free trial here. We’ve definitely been enjoying it on long drives.
SELF CARE
Last week I wrote that moisturizing my skin daily was my goal (I’m referring to my body, not face, as I was already moisturizing my face twice a day). I’m please to say I’ve followed through and my skin is far less dry and itchy. I will definitely continue this practice!
This week I need to do a pedicure.
HEALTH & FITNESS
I’ve totally gotten out of the exercise habit the past few weeks. My goal this week is to get back to using my exercise bike each day, even if only for a few minutes.
FUN ACTIVITIES
I’m drawing a blank here which means I need to make a point to figure out something fun to do. Any ideas for something fun I can do at home?
HABIT OF THE MONTH (JANUARY)
The LWD January Habit of the Month:
I don’t know about you but I’m in the mood to do some more decluttering. January always seems like a good time for this. The challenge is to declutter something every day. It can be anything from a single item to a drawer, closet or other storage area. I suggest making a list of areas to declutter being sure to include some small or easy ones. Then each day pick one according to time available and energy level.

I just found your website through Pinterest. I look forward to trying your recipes and checking out your listed books. I too have a goal this year of decluttering my entire home, starting with my kitchen cabinets.

So happy to have a new reader! The kitchen is a good place to start. Back in 2018 (or was it 2019?) my husband was seriously ill with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. I was awake at all hours keeping an eye on him. I went through several kitchen cabinets and drawers during that time.
