IN MY HOME:
REVIEW OF LAST WEEK
Monday…
I picked up my grocery order around 11:30. David asked me to pick up lunch while I was in town. Chris was off work for the week so I picked up burgers for the three of us from Whip Dip, a local burger joint that has really good food cooked fresh.
I had a Zoom call at 2 p.m. I wrote the “This Week” post, did the daily housework, watered outdoor plants, and polished my toenails.
Tuesday…
I took food I had cooked plus groceries and items I had ordered from Amazon to Mom. I was already in the car after dinner when David called me and asked if I’d like him to go with me. It was about 8 p.m. and I needed to go to Braum’s for a few things for Mom first. I gratefully accepted his offer. It was nice to have help carrying everything in to Mom’s. He’s a good one. 🙂
Wednesday…
We met our friends, Rob and Monica, for dinner at Potrillo’s, a local Mexican restaurant with outdoor dining. The food is good and they make excellent margaritas if you order “top shelf”. I think they add fresh juice and they are very refreshing. We always enjoy our time with these dear friends.
Thursday…
We had planned to go to a local, live theater production at the park but David got called out on a fire at around 4 p.m. Poor guy didn’t get home until about 10:30 p.m. Chris and I waited until about 8 p.m. for him but finally went ahead and had dinner. I got ahold of David and asked if he needed me to bring him food but the son of the man whose property was on fire had bought pizzas and hamburgers for all the firefighters, which was nice. I think about 130 acres were burned but no structures, so that was good. There were several volunteer fire departments on scene as well as the city department. Everything is so dry right now and in fact, the county issued a burn ban today.
Friday…
We picked up Charlotte at 2 p.m., ran a couple of errands, bought a pumpkin and took her to our house. We played “tea party” on the patio for awhile. Chris came over and carved the pumpkin for her. We played inside a bit and then took her home a little after 5 p.m. We all had such a fun time!
I had put a roast with potatoes, carrots and onions in the slow cooker earlier that day so all I had to do for dinner is make a quick coleslaw and bake some French rolls. It had been ages since I’d cooked a roast and it sure was good!
Saturday…
Chris went to visit friends out of town. David worked on the ongoing bathroom remodeling project but stopped at a reasonable hour. We had leftovers from the pot roast and even opened a bottle of wine, something we haven’t done months and months. We turned in early enough to watch an episode of The Gilded Age.
Sunday…
David got up early and met his friend, Rob, to do some fly fishing. He got home around noon and I was just waking up! I hadn’t been able to go to sleep until after 3 a.m., he got an emergency call from the fire department at 6 (didn’t have to go) and then I couldn’t go back to sleep until nearly 10.
David had to go get some things for the bathroom project so he brought back lunch for us. He worked on the bathroom while I washed the sheets, scheduled social media, did the weekly menu, worked on our grocery order and folded laundry.
We had plans to go to Rob and Monica’s at 7 p.m. for cocktails by the fire pit. We really weren’t very hungry so we just shared an order of mozzarella sticks at Sonic on our way to their house. I had made a platter of grapes, cheese and crackers for us all to snack on by the fire. It was a beautiful night and we had a nice visit. We left a little after 9 p.m.
When we got home I put the sheets back on the bed. I always iron the top part of the top sheet and all of the six pillowcases so it takes about 20 minutes to remake the bed. I then placed my grocery order (or so I thought!), took a shower and got to bed around 11 p.m.
We watched an episode of Leave it to Beaver and David promptly fell asleep. I did my usual routine of a crossword puzzle, word search and jigsaw puzzle on my phone. Gotta keep the ol’ brain sharp, right? I read a little and fell asleep a little after midnight.
THIS WEEK
Monday…
This day hasn’t gone according to plan. I placed our grocery order last night and received an email that it was received. However, when the time frame I had selected (11 a.m. to 12 p.m.) had come and gone with no word from my shopper, I called the store. Apparently their website ordering service isn’t working correctly. They charged my credit card but they have no order to fill on their end. They are looking into it. I’m waiting to see if they get it sorted out or if I have to make other plans for groceries. We were out of bread for lunches so I made a quick run to town to get Subway sandwiches for David and me.
My blog was also down for awhile so all that to say, I’m running behind today!
As of when I’m writing this I’ve cooked candied carrots and some peas with lots of butter, salt, pepper and sugar for my mom. She is not a big fan of vegetables but if I make them with butter and sugar/brown sugar she will eat them. I still need to make the Golden Touch Beans she likes and take these to her before I start our dinner.
Later…
I cooked the beans for Mom, went to town to get bread, several items at Braum’s and also picked up a burger and fries for her. I took all this to her and then got back home at almost 7 p.m. I made our dinner which is now done but am waiting on David to finish up whatever he’s working on in the bathroom. Chris already came over and got his dinner and took it back to his house. It’s 8 p.m. – this is going to be a late night, I fear.
Tuesday…
I need to get lab work done early and then I have a doctor appointment at 9 a.m.
I have a Zoom call from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Depending on what happens today with the grocery delivery, I may be doing an Instacart delivery to Lisa’s.
Update: I was able to get enough of what we need at Braum’s, with a couple of alterations to my planned menu.
Wednesday…
If the items arrive early enough I’ll take Mom’s monthly Amazon order to her.
Thursday…
Halloween! As long as it doesn’t rain we’ll go trick or treating with Charlotte. Matt and Joy took her to a Halloween event on Saturday just in case the weather doesn’t cooperate but we are all hoping it works out.
Friday…
I hope to have the week’s essential work done so I can do an “artist date” and have some time to just do a few things I want to do.
Saturday…
I assume David will be working on the bathroom. I’ll wash the sheets and do some house cleaning.
Sunday…
Schedule social media for the week ahead, write out our menu, order groceries and plan the week ahead.
READING
Finished…
I finished Tom Lake last week and it was excellent!
I also read The Many Lives of Mama Love: A Memoir of Lying, Stealing, Writing, and Healing by Lara Love Hardin and I cannot recommend this one more highly. One of the best books I’ve read in probably five years! I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning three nights with this one.
Currently reading…
Carnegie’s Maid: A Novel by Marie Benedict
I’ve read this next one at least a few times but it’s been years. I saw that it was available as an audiobook on Everand/Scribd so I started it last night.
Joy in the Morning by Betty Smith
Other books ongoing…
The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady ~ Edith Holden
An Incomplete Education ~ Judy Jones and William Wilson
On our recent trip to South Texas, David and I listened to an audiobook on Audible:
Around the World in 80 Trains: A 45,000 Mile Adventure by Monisha Rajesh
If you don’t already have Audible, you can get a free trial here. We’ve definitely been enjoying it on long drives.
SELF CARE
I need to put another coat of polish on my toenails. I’ll also remove the clear polish on my fingernails and re-do them.
HEALTH & FITNESS
I’m continuing to focus on my morning exercise routine, adding a bit to it every few days. Daily walks outdoors while the weather is nice and drinking lots of water are also part of my health and fitness goals.
FUN ACTIVITIES
Trick-or-Treating with Charlotte, at least one night of stargazing and coloring are on my “fun agenda” this week. I’m also going to do something from my “artist date” list on Friday.
