Welcome to the second week of October’s LWD Grocery Haul series in which I share our weekly grocery purchases, including prices. I’m always curious to see what others purchase and what food prices are in different countries or regions. I hope you are finding this new series interesting.

We rarely drink pop but once in awhile an icy cold Coke sounds good. When I saw this sale I decided it was a good time to buy some. If you haven’t tried the caramel coffee flavored Werther’s candies, I highly recommend them.
I bought the french fried onions because they were on sale. Now I’ll have plenty for green bean casseroles during the holidays. This is a good time to start watching for sales on non-perishable items you’ll need during the upcoming holidays. I’ll be watching for sales on French-style green beans, canned yams, mini marshmallows (we also like this in hot cocoa), cranberry sauce and stuffing mix.
Subtotal: $102.33 (plus tax, shopper fee, tip)
Azure Standard
- Azure Market organic rolled oats (5 lb.) $8.19
- Azure Market organic cane sugar (25 lb.) $30.18
- Azure Market brown lentils (5 lb.) $8.84
I had not placed an order with Azure Standard for quite some time. I was getting low on these items but I placed the order the day before the Longshoreman strike ended mostly in order to be sure I had sugar on hand for fall/winter baking. Sugar is one of the items that might have been affected by the strike. But even though the strike ended (thankfully!) it never hurts to have extra. I keep sugar in a 5 gallon bucket with screw on lid and it keeps basically forever that way.
Subtotal: $47.21 (plus tax and shipping)
Amazon
- Hellman’s Mayonnaise (3 – 30 oz.) $17.94
- Swanson Lemon & Pepper ready-to-eat chicken (3 pouches – 2.6 oz. ea.) $5.34
- Swanson white premium canned chicken (2 cans – 4.5 oz. ea.) $4.34
- Campbell’s condensed tomato soup (4 cans – 10.75 oz. ea.) $3.98
- Campbell’s condensed chicken noodle soup (8 cans – 10.75 oz. ea.) $8.70
- Campbell’s Chunky Soup – Spicy Nashville-Style Hot Chicken Soup (18.8 oz.) $2.49
- Swanson Natural Spicy Chicken Broth (32 oz. carton) $2.86
- Pace Queso Blanco Cheese Dip (15 oz. jar) $3.68
Note: Amazon had a special offer in which you purchase $30 of certain Campbell’s products and get $10 off. All but the mayonnaise were part of that deal.
This was mostly a pantry stock-up for winter. Even though I usually make homemade soups, I like to have canned soups on hand for a quick side with a sandwich, for emergencies and in case of illness.
I have not previously tried the spicy chicken broth but thought it would be good to have on hand just in case any of us catches a respiratory illness. I was down to my last can of chicken which I use in stir fry.
The ready-to-eat chicken is for me to take when I go with David on business trips. I like to have something I can eat in the hotel room for lunch while he is working. I’ve not tried the queso blanco before but thought it would good to go along with tortilla chips on our Taco Tuesday nights.
I have been buying mayonnaise from Amazon because it’s less expensive than our local store. I’ll give one of these to my mom as she uses quite a lot of it.
Subtotal: $49.33 minus $10 coupon and $1.47 in other coupons = $37.86 (plus tax)
Total: $187.40
This total is a lot higher than my usual weekly grocery budget but the Amazon and Azure Standard items were largely for pantry stocking and will be used over the next several months (or more, in case of the sugar).
